Welcome to Steve Herschbach's Prospecting Page! I have been prospecting for over 35 years, starting with pan and sluice box, and progressing to suction dredges. Suction dredging kept me busy for many years, and I have used every size dredge from the tiny 1.5" on up to massive 8" units. I have owned many mining claims over the years, mostly on the Kenai Peninsula of Alaska. In 1998 I decided to focus exclusively on using metal detectors to prospect for gold. In 2003 I finally acquired a property near McGrath Alaska that I have been interested in for nearly as long as I have been prospecting - Moore Creek, Alaska. Moore Creek has both excellent placer and lode mining possibilities, and in 2005 my partners and I started a "pay-to-mine" operation that was immediately successful. On May 1st of 2006 Full Metal Minerals announced the beginning of a serious lode prospecting program at Moore Creek.
My 2006 season includes continued placer prospecting at Moore Creek, helping set up the 2006 "pay-to-mine" operation, and aiding Full Metal Minerals in the hardrock prospecting program.
